I was going to start this joke off with a tweet about having not showered since 2018, but it seems I started last year’s send off in that exact same manner. And also it’s a few days into 2019, so you better hope I’ve showered since 2018. Let’s recap another 365 days on the planet shall we. Typing ‘365’ with some confidence as I’m pretty sure 2018 wasn’t a leap year, don’t really know though. Continue Reading →
2017 is coming to a close, here we are on the last day of the year. You BET I can’t fucking wait to make a joke about not having showered since last year, though I shower so infrequently I could make that joke now and mean 2016.
Last year I wrote a bit of a similar spiel to cover my year, to have a long ass list of what I did that year forever. It’s nothing of any quality, but it’s a nice thing to have to look back at.
January. I opened this year by standing at Point Hill in Greenwich overlooking central London and the famous London NYE fireworks. They looked kinda tiny from that far away, London is a giant ass place. Amy and I went back to my new house, drank some prosecco and fell asleep at like 2am, it was clearly quite wild. A few days later I started my new job, as a social media and website intern (later becoming assistant) for a charity based in East London. I was all alone in this big city living with people I didn’t know then, but who went on to become like family to me. The rest of January was spent finding my feet in this new city I lived in. And at a conference in Morecambe, where it promptly pissed down. Whilst there I met and befriended so many people who are big parts of my life now, and also met Laura who I already knew through the wonderful world of Twitter, despite the two of us having 0 clue we were on the same internship scheme. Wild. The most important part of January was going to the Tate Modern for the first time. My favourite gallery, my favourite spot to have a coffee and take in the London skyline. I miss that place already.
It might be a 2016 year in review in mid-January, but hey my blog schedule is busy between INTERVIEWED, X amount of time a Londoner and travel posts!
Let’s look back at my instagram best nine, which showcased some of my favourite moments of the year, even if it featured the least staged and edited of my pictures! I work hard on posting nice shots of landscapes and cities to instagram, but ho hey the ones of silly old me are the ones my friends like.
1) Greg Rutherford
I dressed as Greg Rutherford this Halloween, as part of my ‘Inspiring Gingers Through Time’ Halloween 2016 theme. Greg himself approved of it, as did his wife Suzy, cheers for the support guys!
This costume involved a lot of masking tape, fabric tape and iron on transfer paper. It came out surprisingly well for a costume made of the shittest materials possible.
2) The dab
I posted a whole spiel with this insta about how this picture came out, for the shorter, not as a fun version, I dabbed as Amy told me to and the club photographer kept shouting ‘NO DABBING’
3) Stockholm Snow Boy
We visited Stockholm in November, whilst the city was experiencing some of the worst snow it had experienced in November for 100 years. We had a bit of a photoshoot in the snow using my trusty Calvin the Camera.
4) Vincent Van Gogh
My other ‘Inspiring Ginger Through Time’ costume was Vincent Van Gogh. This was a fun costume to make as it consisted entirely of things I already owned, including the sunflower.
5) S C O U S E P O W E R
Taken the same night as the dab. Couldn’t not pose with some SCOUSE POWER graffiti. Especially now that I’m the token Northerner in any circles I mix in in London.
Yes, this is a genuinely nice one with people I love and all, back to me dressed as other gingers.
7) Obi-Wan Kenobi
I slept little and sewed lots for a long time resulting in this cosplay, it’s the best I’ve ever done. Fae made the armour and she KILLED IT.
8) Oslo Idiot
Surprise, surprise, I wore a black t-shirt, black jeans and black trainers and posed like a right dick somewhere publicly.
My favourite view in the city and one of my favourite places on Earth. I love Liverpool so much, I do miss it a lot being over 200 miles away. It does make me sad thinking that it’ll have changed so much the next time I go back, though Liverpool will always be what I consider home.
Even moreso as my actual hometown is too small for anyone down here to know, with Liverpool being the closest city, it’s easier to say that. I did live there for 2 years, and I consider it more a hometown than my actual hometown.
And that’s my top 9 for the year. See you in 2018 for 2017’s!
It might be a few days late to post a look back at 2016, but it’s been a mighty busy couple of days, I haven’t had a chance to look back at the last few minutes let alone look back at the entire year. 2016 has been a rollercoaster of a year, there’s been major disappointments, disasters, and losses for the world. In my personal life, I’ve overcome some obstacles, hit major milestones and been at the highest and lowest points I think I’ve ever been at.
I started 2016 with a 6am shift at ASDA. I remember going to bed on New Year’s Day at 12:10am. I didn’t start it very well. Then someone in the canteen was talking about how they think Sia is stupid. It really didn’t start well.
January was a bit of a whirlwind, I was in the first exam/coursework period of my third and final year of my degree. I had so much coursework, it was probably the hardest exam period of the entire degree. I averaged out at a 2:1 at this point, that’s mega good, but I personally was disappointed as I had been averaging on a strong first grade, and my results which dragged me down were in a module I very much struggled in, and one I recognised I didn’t try hard enough in. After this, I had a week off alongside my course and flatmates, we drank, we shopped, we partied, it was a great time.
Things then improved further! We finished January, and brought in February, with a trip to Budapest, Hungary. Myself and four of my nearest and dearest decided to spend a couple of well earned days away in a city none of us had ever visited. It was bloody incredible. We all laughed harder than we ever had before on that trip, that’s what stands out to me from it. It was one of the best few days of my life with people who I’m sure will be lifelong friends. That’s the nicest thing I’ve ever said about them, usually we’re all right bastards to each other.
2016 IS UPON US! Except I’m typing this part on December 31st 2015, so no, it isn’t (just yet)
2015 has been a great year, it’s been a big year, a lot has happened yet at the same time I feel like nothing has! I was #blessed with a new baby niece born 1 day before my 20th birthday, I got a new job, I moved out of a flat with some of my best friends, then moved into a new flat with a (mostly) different set of friends, amongst other things!
However, rather than a reflection on 2015, this will be a look forward onto 2016. Every year, my friend Amy and I say ‘this will be our year!’, and I think the statement rings true more than ever before this year. I have so much planned and so much to be excited about, and I’m looking forward to documenting it all here, my own wedge of the internet that I treat as a diary.
And all of my plans are up until mid-July, I have zero things set in stone from then on, and instead of being daunting, it is the most liberating thing I have ever felt!
Let’s dive into my New Year’s Resolutions instead!
1) Big hair change
What a dumb way to kick this off.
I ALWAYS say I want to dye my hair but every single person I tell this to then tells me ‘No, you’ll never get your natural hair colour back, you’ll hate it, your natural colour is too nice’ or some variation of all these. But I’ve had my natural hair colour for 20 years now, I’m ready for a change.
I would love my hair to be a darker shade of ginger, coppet/brass-y or ‘Michael Fassbender ginger’, to put it more accurately. As I was growing up, I always hoped my hair would darken to a darker ginger shade, instead over the years, it has progressively lightened! To quote High School Musical: ‘This is not what I want, this is not what I planned, and I just gotta say, I do not understand’
Or, I would love to dye my hair grey (or gray for you non-Brits). This is much more of a change than just dying my hair a few shades darker. I have no idea if I’d suit it or not, but I don’t care too much, if it’s a mistake, my hair is pretty short and grows very fast, and plus I always say I’m gonna cut my hair shorter, so it’ll be alright.
And then I always get told ‘but you’ll have to do something with your eyebrows, and what about your stubble?!’ 1) My eyebrows are shit anyway, so anything done to them will be an improvement. 2)It’s 2015, stubble dye is a thing you brush in every few days. It’s a good time to be alive.
2)Find my love for making videos again
My ‘relationship’ with YouTube has changed a lot this year, god how pretentious does that sound?! Who and what I watch has changed, as well as how much, as in, I watch a lot less. I just don’t have time to watch 35 minute daily vlogs everyday.
For the past few months I’ve not really enjoyed making videos. I’ve been very inconsistent with uploading and not been very happy when I have done. I want to get out of this rut and start making things I love and go back to why I first started YouTube- as a creative outlet. It was something to destress, not something to stress about.
The last video I’ve made which I was happy with was Highlighters. I enjoyed it, it meant something to me, and it was a bit more innovative than me sitting infront of a camera chatting.
My blog, even though it came after my YouTube, is my main and one true love. But I want to be just as in love with YouTube again.
3)Live a healthier lifestyle
I know, I know, could this be more generic?
But I’ve been ill lately a fair bit more than usual, and feeling sluggish and not great. I miss going for runs every other day, doing exercise at home, and generally feeling more awake and healthy. I always say I’m gonna join the gym, maybe I will, maybe I won’t, but I just want to be a bit healthier.
4) Enjoy 2016
This year has the potential to be the best year of my life yet, and I need to make it that! Plus after July, I have no full time commitments, I need to utilise that. Plus, this is the last few months of uni, and while 3rd year is hard and can be hell at times, this is the last time so many of my friends will live in Liverpool and be able to do dumb things like go to a new bar at 2pm on a Tuesday.
5) Start my real life
I’m finally leaving education behind, and I’m extremely lucky to be in a position where I can do whatever the hell I want! It’s time for me to discover what that is.
6) Enrich myself with travel and new skills
I have and always have had serious case of wanderlust. I want to travel everywhere and see every inch of the planet! This year I’ll be going to Budapest for a weekend, and in March, travelling around Japan for almost 4 weeks! That’s going to be the longest I’ve ever been away from home, and the first time I have properly travelled rather than just been on holiday. I’ll be staying in 3 different cities, but visiting around 8/9! I have wanted to do this for so long and it doesn’t feel real.
I find people very interesting and much more attractive when they have a bunch of hobbies and skills, I’m sure we all do! I always want to learn how to do things and never see them through!
I have an electric piano (that’s not a pretentious word for keyboard, they’re two different things) which I bought 2 years ago, played for a while, then moved and left it at home. Now I can’t read music and remember 0 of what I did. I have been teaching myself basic Japanese, and I would like to see this through until I am at a good level, I’d also love to speak French! I want to improve upon my video editing skills, I can edit fast, but I can’t edit well!
And one thing I’ve recently decided I want to give a go is acting! I think it looks fun, plus even if there’s a 1 in a trillion chance I could end up in a Star Wars movie, I need to take that chance.
And if any of these fail, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
7) Instagram more
What a dumb one, but I like Instagram and want to update it more than once a week.
Happy New Year to you all! I hope you started it off well! I know a lot of people start it hungover, if you are suffering with one, I hope you it’s not too bad!
I start work at 6am on January 1st, hopefully my entire year will be just as productive. But I 1000% know that it won’t be!
Future me/aka present me I guess, survived the 6am shift. It was actually good, a pleasant surprise for the start of the year!
