Goodbye 2017!

2017 is coming to a close, here we are on the last day of the year. You BET I can’t fucking wait to make a joke about not having showered since last year, though I shower so infrequently I could make that joke now and mean 2016.

Last year I wrote a bit of a similar spiel to cover my year, to have a long ass list of what I did that year forever. It’s nothing of any quality, but it’s a nice thing to have to look back at.

January. I opened this year by standing at Point Hill in Greenwich overlooking central London and the famous London NYE fireworks. They looked kinda tiny from that far away, London is a giant ass place. Amy and I went back to my new house, drank some prosecco and fell asleep at like 2am, it was clearly quite wild. A few days later I started my new job, as a social media and website intern (later becoming assistant) for a charity based in East London. I was all alone in this big city living with people I didn’t know then, but who went on to become like family to me. The rest of January was spent finding my feet in this new city I lived in. And at a conference in Morecambe, where it promptly pissed down. Whilst there I met and befriended so many people who are big parts of my life now, and also met Laura who I already knew through the wonderful world of Twitter, despite the two of us having 0 clue we were on the same internship scheme. Wild. The most important part of January was going to the Tate Modern for the first time. My favourite gallery, my favourite spot to have a coffee and take in the London skyline. I miss that place already.

New Music of the Month – January 2017

January has been a good month in the music world, we’re off to a good start in 2017. Let’s hope it continues you this way, 2016 was bloody incredible, 2017 can you top it?!

Here are some of my favourite tracks released this month, or blowing up this month:

Heavy Soul – You Me At Six

One of the first bands I ever saw live was You Me At Six, back when they supported Paramore in 2009. Those were the days.

Their new album ‘Night People’ just dropped, and I’m in love with this song. Great indie song coupled with a, somehow beach-y, guitar riff. I’m all ears for this. Continue Reading →

Goodbye 2016!

It might be a few days late to post a look back at 2016, but it’s been a mighty busy couple of days, I haven’t had a chance to look back at the last few minutes let alone look back at the entire year. 2016 has been a rollercoaster of a year, there’s been major disappointments, disasters, and losses for the world. In my personal life, I’ve overcome some obstacles, hit major milestones and been at the highest and lowest points I think I’ve ever been at.

I started 2016 with a 6am shift at ASDA. I remember going to bed on New Year’s Day at 12:10am. I didn’t start it very well. Then someone in the canteen was talking about how they think Sia is stupid. It really didn’t start well.

January was a bit of a whirlwind, I was in the first exam/coursework period of my third and final year of my degree. I had so much coursework, it was probably the hardest exam period of the entire degree. I averaged out at a 2:1 at this point, that’s mega good, but I personally was disappointed as I had been averaging on a strong first grade, and my results which dragged me down were in a module I very much struggled in, and one I recognised I didn’t try hard enough in. After this, I had a week off alongside my course and flatmates, we drank, we shopped, we partied, it was a great time.

Things then improved further! We finished January, and brought in February, with a trip to Budapest, Hungary. Myself and four of my nearest and dearest decided to spend a couple of well earned days away in a city none of us had ever visited. It was bloody incredible. We all laughed harder than we ever had before on that trip, that’s what stands out to me from it. It was one of the best few days of my life with people who I’m sure will be lifelong friends. That’s the nicest thing I’ve ever said about them, usually we’re all right bastards to each other.
