7 Things To Do In Verona, Italy

Welcome to beautiful Verona, Italy! This Northern Italian city is famed for being the home of Romeo and Juliet, close location to Lake Garda and its fair share of pretty piazzas.

In May I took an extremely impromptu trip to the city of star-crossed lovers as I was lucky enough to have a place to stay for free and Ryan Air flights came to around £40 return from London Stansted. I didn’t spend much whilst dotting around Verona either, it’s not a particularly expensive city if you don’t want it to be, and with tons of flights every weekend from the UK, it’s the perfect city for a weekend getaway.

Here are a couple of things I’d recommend doing in the city.

Beard Care for the man with sensitive skin*

Spoilers: the man is me. I’m the man with sensitive skin.

The fine folks over at Murdock London kindly gifted me some of the products featured in this post and they’ve revolutionised my face a little bit. They’re experts in men’s grooming and I truly appreciate any help as I’m a man with ridiculously sensitive skin that likely has razor burn on it at any given point during the warmer months. And a beard that I just can’t take care of because I can barely take care of myself!

Today I thought I’d share a couple of products which help to protect my skin and beard whilst shaving and in general daily life, life is tough enough without your facial hair reeking havoc upon your face.

So for a bit of background, I recently decided to overhaul the shaving system I’d had in place for the best part of a decade since I began to shave my face at 13 years old. Still waiting on that growth spurt but got the facial hair pretty god damn early. The reason behind this was that my face was just getting ruined by shaving, my skin was in tatters, it was awful.

My skin became rough to the touch every time I shaved it, I’d have days of itching and razor burn and nothing seemed to be soothing it. This began to effect my confidence as no one wants to be going out with a rash on their neck that can’t be hidden, I loved wearing shirts with collars as they’d hide it a little bit. As someone who owns about 4,000 band tees, this wasn’t the life I wanted to live!

When I’m referring to shaving, I more so mean tidying up the lines of my facial hair and getting the runaways on the cheeks and tidying my neckline up. That’s also something I’ve changed thanks to Jonathan’s advice on Queer Eye, he’s a grooming guru. My beard began to suffer as I wasn’t taking proper care of my facial hair, I didn’t know what to do so sorta did nothing about it instead.

In many ways I’m very lucky because I grow facial hair very quickly, I can mess around with lengths and styles because it’ll be back to normal in a couple of days. The downside of this is that my face needs constant management or I’ll become a yeti who’s facial hair joins his eyebrows in the north and chest hair in the south. And said facial hair would be extremely dry, unstyled and the poor skin beneath would be destroyed.

I reached out on Twitter because the blogging community knows what’s UP and essentially told me to stop doing everything horrifically wrong and begin from scratch. My buddy Ryan Mules gave me some amazing recommendations, so let’s run through some of the products in my new and improved shaving and beard care routine.

SNAPSHOTS OF VILNIUS, LITHUANIA

Welcome to rainy Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania and the final stop on our four country tour from Helsinki to Vilnius!

I’ll be honest, we were lazy in Vilnius. The weather was a bit drab, we’d been on the road nonstop for a few weeks and had had a very busy couple of days, by the time we hit Vilnius, we were just ready to stop for a minute. We took this city much slower, maybe didn’t do as much as we could have, but we did binge watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race: All Stars 2 in bed. I swear that series changed my life.

Click the jump to take a quick peek into the beautiful Vilnius!

MOST LISTENED TO

MLT3

Welcome to this totally narcissistic and self-serving blog series where I laud about the music I’ve been listening to over the last few weeks, as if my music taste is something to shout over. Well I think it is, because it’s my music taste, of course I like it.

Anyway this ramble is going on like an artist between songs at a gig who’s just a tad nervous. Catch the songs I was loving a few weeks back here. I calculate these songs using Obscurify and have my own little golden rule of only included one main song per artist, otherwise this month we’d have two Panic! At The Disco tracks.

1) Selfish Love – Jessie Ware

Ever since my sister put on one of Jessie’s earliest tracks in her car many moons ago, I’ve been enamoured with her voice. But I never really listen to her enough, now I’m rectifying that awful mistake by binging on ‘This is: Jessie Ware’, her latest album ‘Glasshouse’ and her fucking amazing podcast with her mum ‘Table Manners with Jessie Ware’.

‘Selfish Love’ fits into a niche category of music video, ‘singer kills cheating husband in the pool of their luxurious Californian mansion’. Magnets- Disclosure + Lorde is the only other I know that fits into this weird and wonderful category.

But to actually discuss the song that we’re here to talk about and to not babble about podcasts and murder, ‘Selfish Love’ is a banging tune, it’s my favourite track of her’s. It’s ethereal, powerful, peaceful and suspenseful all at the same time. It’s like if Mr and Mrs Smith were all about sex and power instead of being spies, though that film kinda was all an allegory for sex and their relationship huh?
