Movember 2018: Why I’m Taking Part

Hi friends, I hope you’re all well. I wanted to make this post to talk about why myself and three close friends of mine, Ben, Adam and Aled, will be taking part in Movember 2018. (Donation page here if you can’t be assed reading all the way to the bottom)

So Movember is a month of growing moustaches and fun facial hair in support of the Movember Foundation, which seeks to combat prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health issues and the high suicide rate within men- over 75% of suicides are committed by men, with men in their 40’s being the highest at risk.

However, as mental health couldn’t give less of a shit about your sex or gender identity, we are also supporting the charity Mind. Mind is fantastic, their work to combat mental health cannot be understated and they are helping out where the Government is failing, though I hear some more funding is coming through in that area, so we’ll see how that goes.

MOST LISTENED TO

Most Listened To is a little series I dip into every now and then to share some of the songs that I’m loving at the minute. I log into Obscurify and pick out the top 10 most listened to tracks of the last six weeks, though I do kind of cheat and set a rule so that there can only be one song per artist represented, otherwise we’d be seeing a lot more Christine and the Queens and Pale Waves thanks to their recently released albums, and Dua Lipa too, with her upcoming deluxe album.

Since my last ‘Most Listened To’ post I’ve spent some time travelling around the States and spent a whole lot of time at home resting up a leg injury, so this is what these 10 tracks represent!

Apologies for the uncentered Spotify embeds, WordPress doesn’t want to comply today.

1) Electricity – Silk City + Dua Lipa

I remember this coming out whilst I was in Portland, Oregon. Specifically, lying on the sofa bed in the living room and thinking that this song was mediocre. I was so wrong, it’s already jumped into my top tracks of all time.

Dua Lipa has one of those voices that fits in every track from soul to EDM, ‘Electricity’ feels like new territory for her, but with Mark Ronson and Diplo as her collaborators, it was only going to be a massive dance success. The track is incredibly catchy, and was co-written by Romy of the xx! The more you know.

BOOHOO MAN x PEPSI

A few months ago I was contacted by Boohoo Man in relation to their super cool Summer ’18 collaboration with Pepsi, The Art of Football Capsule Collection.

This range is inspired by street art all over the world and brings together the worlds of art and football. I’m becoming more and more of a big ol’ art nerd, I did go as Van Gogh for Halloween, after all. And I’m actually getting back into football for once, with a fantasy team named after my new hero, Mo Salah.

The kind folks at Boohoo gifted me a couple of pieces to shoot and style.

MOST LISTENED TO

It’s been a hot minute since my last edition of ‘Most Listened To’. Since the last one I’ve been gallivanting around Europe and South America, here we are back in the UK, with the ability to listen to anything I want, not just things I have saved offline!

The only rule we have in Most Listened To is that only one song per artist can be featured in the top 10. So, pour one out for the extra Sigrid and Chvrches songs we lost this week. Here is the last one.

The Bizarre Journey of Ginger Self-Acceptance

Happily being ginger in the land of gingers, Ireland.

Since I was a wee bab I’ve been a redhead, a ranga, firecrotch, carrot top, kissed by fire – ginger. I’ve heard all of these nicknames and more. The interesting thing is that people are ALWAYS so proud of themselves when they throw out a nickname associated with gingers as an insult. Like in my 23 years of having a giant quiff of ginger hair plopped on my skull that no one else I’ve EVER encountered has said it before them in that precise moment of time.
