MUSIC OF THE MONTH - JULY 2017

July is over, it seems the summer is gone with it to, but I'm here with my top picks of this month's music releases.

If you wanna catch up on June's music, click here.

Glory - Bunker Sessions - Bastille

A stripped back version of the band's latest single will get you contemplating life, chilling out and wanting to get high and lie in the road as the lyrics suggest.

Praying - Kesha

Kesha is finally back after all these years, she's finally able to continue with her craft. She's come back on the scene with this slow tune beaming with pride and freedom. As Kesha says 'the best is yet to come'

Lakhey - Sundara Karma

Sundara Karma continue to kill it with their latest track that'll have you dancing immediately. They have a knack for creating these tunes that you know are special within about 1/2 a second.

6/10 - dodie

dodie's slow, ethereal voice is the tune you need whilst sat in a coffee shop, having a flat white, relaxing and working. That's exactly what I'm doing right now.

Another great track from the YouTuber musician, I can't wait for the full EP.

dodie is also one of the kindest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet (many moons back at a party), so please show some support!

Miracles (Someone Special) - Coldplay ft Big Sean

The collaboration I never thought of even in my wildest of dreams is here. I'm one of those people who doesn't really 'get' Coldplay but they always pop up in my most listened to tracks. I wouldn't be surprised if this one did too.

ALIENS was a refreshing take on Coldplay's formula, but one that (for me) failed, they've hit the nail on the head with Miracles.

Sorry Not Sorry - Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is always good at dropping a summer banger. It's no 'Cool For The Summer', but it's what you'll be hearing as you sip a g+t at a rooftop bar.

Summer Bummer - Lana Del Rey ft A$AP Rocky

Lana's latest album 'Lust for Life' is well and truly incredible. This is one of the many standout tracks. Lana + A$AP Rocky have pulled off not one, but two stellar collabs. Get this one in your ears asap.

Don't be a bummer babe.

Lana doesn't need to mess with her multi-award winning, multi-#1 album take on music, but she does and she gives it her all. Once again she does bloody brilliantly.

Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems - Lana Del Rey ft Stevie Nicks

The phrase 'legends only' was coined for collaborations like this. Stevie Nick's is the definition of legend, to hear her incredible voice alongside Lana's distinctive tones is just fantastic.

Mermaid - Skott

Skott continues to drop incredible singles (+ incredible cover art). Whilst this song sounds very Halsey, it really highlights Skotts incredible vocals and lyrical skills.

She truly has the range.

Lost in Translation - Alice Kristiansen

I know nothing about Alice Kristiansen outside of Lost in Translation, but if her other music is half as good as this, we're definitely in good stead.

Boys - Charli XCX

The video for Boys has set the world alight this week, however that's not to say the song isn't just as great. Simple lyrics, Charli's pop friendly voice and a couple of interesting sound effects make for a song we'll be hearing all summer long.

I won't tell you which gif from the video I had open in a tab all day to nosey at when I got bored, I'll let you work out who yourself.

Run For Cover - The Killers

Gone are the days of people complaining The Killers are never going to be as good as they were when they produced Sam's Town and Hot Fuss. Rather, those days should be gone. They never will be completely.

The Killers are back, and forgive me for this, but they are killing it with this new sound and new era. They serve as a reminder that no band has to stop evolving and developing their sound.

Technology - Don Broco

I haven't caught up with all of Don Broco's new stuff just yet, but Technology founds it's way into my headphones and I loved every second of it.

Distinctly Broco, distinctly fresh and 100% something I want to hear more of.

Don Broco make rock accessible as hell, I love that you'll find them occasionally hidden in a pop playlist or in the heaviest of rock. What a sound to have.

Here's the playlist I've made collating all of 2017's best releases so far:

That's all for this month, fingers crossed August delivers!

See you in the next addition.
