What I got for Christmas

Hello!

I hope any and all of you reading this post had a wonderful festive season, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I hope you enjoyed the little break you had from work/school/whatever.

Today I am here to share a few gifts I recieved for Christmas. Usually I hate Christmas hauls, as they seem a bit braggy and artificial to me at times. I know a lot of people simply do them because they're requested or because it kinda is the big hot thing for bloggers/YouTubers this time of year, in fact, I think I'm rather late to the party, and it isn't an 'ego' thing. But whatever, if it is, you do you and I'll do me.

For me, this is more to document some of the things I was gifted by my brilliant family and friends, I couldn't ask for better people in my life, except for Daisy Ridley. Daze, (can I call you Daze?), if you're reading this, hmu.

I have a terrible memory, so this is my visual diary, and also, it's an opportunity to photo some things on my marble vinyl.

The reason most of these pictures are at an angle is because of the bloody shadows cast by everything. I can't control natural light, this is my one and only flaw.

LAPD' 53 is a book about crimes committed in Los Angeles back in 1953, and it's full of grissly pictures of murder scenes and explanations of how these things were committed. It's the type of stuff I always find myself diving into late at night on cracked.com and then I'm not able to sleep. So you know what's better? Having actual physical pictures of mutilated bodies!

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar

All of my social media has had a huge Star Wars overload lately. I am very sorry if you don't like/care for Star Wars, and that is all I've clogged your timelines with.

This month has been a very huge month for Star Wars, and I celebrated this with a Lego Star Wars advent calendar! I bought this from firebox.com, but I know that you could buy these in store at the Lego store! This cost me £30.

The main reason I'm doing this post full of what I got in it is that I bought a vinyl marble sheet and wanted to try taking pictures on it for the first time, it went...okay. My camera was being temperamental and I'm seeing that a lot of these came out rather dark, and one came out SO BRIGHT.

Oh well, it's all a learning curve.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoiler Free Review!

Last night, at 00:01, I sat in a theatre completely sold out, full of Star Wars fans anticipating the start of The Force Awakens, the 7th film in the Star Wars series, and the 7th chronologically.

The film is set 30 years after Return of the Jedi, which left the Empire crushed, however now, the First Order has risen, and the rebel alliance has had to evolve into the Resistance to survive. We follow a mix of fresh faces and well known old friends in the fight to bring peace to the galaxy once more.

My Year in Music

This picture is so grainy, but natural light is a luxury during winter in the UK

Today Spotify released their 'Year in Music' feature, which tells you all about your music preferences throughout the year as well as what was popular globally! This is the first year I've had Spotify for long enough to get the benefit of Year in Music, as last year I only started using Spotify again, after not using it for years, in December.

If you don't like Maroon 5, turn back now.

Christmas Jumpers!

Happy 3rd of December!!

The glorious month has finally come! It's time to get festive. Except I don't feel majorly festive yet, apart from the fact I've been eating mince pies almost everyday since November 1st, and that I get to wear a Christmas uniform to work! I might change my bedsheets to my Christmas bedsheets actually, that will get me festive. (Yes, I am the type of person who has Christmas bedsheets)

I should really watch a Christmas film to get into the festive spirit, but with The Force Awakens a mere TWO WEEKS away, I am all wrapped up in Star Wars.

So anyway, to get back on track, I have been getting into the festive spirit with Christmas jumpers! I'm a 50 year old Dad at heart, with a student budget, so Primark this time of year is my heaven. But also hell because it's about as busy as you'd expect a store to be at Christmas. To my fellow brethren who will be working retail over Christmas, may the odds be ever in our favour.

De-stressing

The way I deal with stress can be described as anything from 'extremely mature adult' all the way to 'why is that grown man crying and eating sat in a puddle of his own tears'.

Sadly, last week was more so the latter than the former! This time of year is always hectic for everyone for so many reasons, and November seems to be where it sets in, at least for me anyway!
I decided last week I'd write out and post a few of the things stressing me out, of course I naturally forgot to do this and now we're on Monday of the following week.

Usually I only like to post blogposts with pictures, but daylight is now a luxury, thanks to the great British weather. I saw street lights on at 1:30pm, it sucks. So the lightning for pictures has become almost non-existant, and I've been struggling with early mornings because, well I'm gonna blame it on being ill the week before last and being a bit ill last week also.

Here are some things that managed to stress me out:

  • Uni
  • Coursework titles being released
  • Going back to work
  • Going back to work to a new job
  • Not having the time to watch Jessica Jones on Netflix
  • Christmas prep
  • Not knowing when I'm working over Christmas
  • Amazon sending me Christmas presents damaged
  • Being tired 24/7
  • My Avengers blanket not being snuggly enough
  • The cliffhangers The Walking Dead leaves on every week, and now the midseason finale's cliffhanger.
  • Trying to win tickets to the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere in London and not winning
  • Deadlines
  • Having to balance my diet
  • Having to restrict my dairy intake when cereal is my favourite food and I am in a swing of loving coffee and hot chocolates at the minute. Life is cruel.
Half of these were real dumb, but hey that's my life.

This week I feel a lot better, health wise and motivation wise. I still have a crapton of balls in the air but I can deal with it, as I always do!

I shall get back to real posts soon enough because it's December as of tomorrow and I frigging love Christmas, so I need to get festive.

I only have one thing left, to ask you a question.

ARE YOU READY TO JINGLE YOUR BELLS?

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Review (Spoiler free)

The other night, my roommates and I went to go see Mockingjay Part 2 at midnight! This was a LONG awaited event for me, as I've been hooked ever since I heard of the first film, and read the books in the week The Hunger Games came out in UK cinemas. And now it's finally come to an end!

This will be spoiler free, as far as possible, I don't want to give any plot points away.

ExDirectory | Liverpool's Secret Bar

This past Thursday, I had the pleasure of going to ExDirectory, a bar that has only been open for just over a week now in Liverpool.

The thing is, this is a bar with a twist. Last week, a post went up on the Liverpool Echo about this new secret bar, and within minutes, it was Trending in Liverpool and everyone was going MAD about it!

Why you ask? Because the bar is disguised as a phone box, with no location given. This is in a city with hundreds of red phone boxes. The phone number is not explicitly stated, even though probably a hundred or so are listed, leaving you to work out which (if any) is correct.

Hogwarts. | Outfit Inspo

Primark sells oh so much stuff with Hogwarts on it. Or some sort of Harry Potter reference on. In fact, I bought another Harry Potter piece of clothing from Primark the other day, that makes 5 or 6 or something that I own now. I need to stop. Hell, I even made my own modern Gryffindor uniform cosplay.

Here is another outfit inspo post, this one is much more simple than the last few have been.

Plus, please ignore the fact that my jumper is majorly creased, outfit blogposts are not so glamorous to pull off. I always imagined it was much more glitzy and amazing.

It's a little weird looking at these pictures now, these were taken about a month ago, and since I've had a haircut (and an extreme skin breakout, why, life, why?)

WHAT I'M WEARING:

Hogwarts Jumper - £10 - Primark (last year, no website)
Women's Chelsea Boots - £8 - Primark (no website)
Black Jeans - £30 - Topman

Post-Halloween round up

HAPPY NOVEMBER!! I hope you all are well and enjoyed a most magnificent Halloween!

I certainly did, Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year (I love any holiday) and so I went all out this year! I used to just do easy-ish costumes, but for the past few years I have tried to go as all out as possible! Usually I do 2 costumes but this year I went for 3!

Also, oops, when you're planning to do a blogpost on this stuff, you probably should take better quality pics. But also, w/e these are a mix of 'at the party' pictures and 'the taxi is here in 2 minutes and we haven't took pics yet'.

Update: I'm a ball of stress.

Life has been so busy at the minute. And not so much in the good way. Partly in the good way, but at the same time I spread so incredibly thin right now, and I'm really sad that I haven't updated since last Sunday.

I mean the last time I updated, this wasn't even out yet:

I did not tear up and freak out at all. That's a complete lie, I watched it and then bought tickets to go to the midnight premiere because it's gonna be great. I'm classing 'great' as better than the prequels. Let's be real, that isn't gonna be hard when you have the original cast, the amazing new cast (Gwendoline Christie could stand in silence for 2 hours and you'd still find me starting a hashtag for her to receive an Oscar) and J.J. Abrams.

Solopress are running a competition called 'Get Noticed with Solopress', this is a great social media focused competition, and one which you can enter simply with a tweet!

And throughout this post, you will see some examples of Solopress' work! They were extremely kind, and sent me a package filled with some goodies personalised for me!

All the goodies came in this cute little drawstring bag!
I don't know exactly what will be stored in it, but something will be!

Halloween Workspace

It's my favourite time of year, because it's time to get SPOOKY!

And after getting spooky, it's time to get festive, but let's focus on the spoopy times for now!

I adore Halloween, I love the films, the sweets, the, dare I say it, aesthetic. Though after a recent bad run in with a Pumpkin Spice Latte, they are in my bad books for now.

Today, I thought I'd share a few pics of my rather spooktacular desk. It makes reading 30 page articles on EU law much more interesting.

I spend a lot of time at my desk, I work at it, I eat at it, I watch TV, I play games, I write blogposts at it! So why not make it what I want to be? And change it around every couple of months to keep it fresh!

These lights were from Wilkinson's last year for £3!

Let's embrace the point of no return | Magnets - Disclosure ft Lorde

Lorde and Disclosure brought out a song and it has been my life for the past week.

And now there's a video and I couldn't not write a little post on it, even if this is not something that I usually write about.

I've been a huge fan of Lorde since her album Pure Heroine came out, just over 2 years ago now. I listened to that album almost every single day on my way to university, when I still lived at home. Meaning that for the 30 minute walk to the train station, the wait for the train, the 25 minute journey to Liverpool THEN the walk from the station to uni, I listened to that album. And I did that twice a day for a year. The lyrics to all of those songs are imprinted into my brain forever and I am more than 100% okay with that. It's a fantastic album, and you should definitely listen to it if you haven't.

P.S. My favourite is Tennis Court, which is a contender for my favourite song ever.

Making student accommodation a home!

Hello again everyone, blogging twice in a week! It's like old times. Or rather, the occasional times when I have my shit together.

So, as you know I moved back to Liverpool this week after 3 months at home, I have moved into a new room, in a new flat with (mostly) new flatmates. One thing that is a must for me, is making my room feel like my room. I'm going to be spending a lot of the next 9 months living here, so even though there's an end in sight, it is still my full time home for the time being!

So why not put that little bit of extra effort in! Here are a few bits of advice on how to make your room feel like a home:

Stressful Days

Wow, I have been a terrible blogger lately. The worst.  I've been in a bit of a creative rut and motivational rut due to work not having any hours for me and having nothing else really to fill my time whilst I'm back at home from uni. This has lead me to get extremely stressed out pretty damn easily, for example, when I want to play Splatoon online and it won't connect, leading me to get halfway to a panic attack in seconds. Not fun.

About a week ago, I tried to film a video on 'sexual harassment'. It got me reeeeeeaaaal mad at the world and every single gross person on this earth. It left me feeling crummy all day and that video will never see the light of day because it was very, very rage-y. I'll be refilming in a few weeks when I think I can get my points across in a better way.

So I took the rest of the day as a chill day to get all the anger and sadness and bad feelings out of my system.

Here are just a few of the things I did:

Summer in the City 2015

I'm so sorry blog, I am so sorry I haven't posted anything in a while!!

I was at Summer in the City (SITC) this weekend, which is the UK's biggest YouTube and online media convention. This was my second year attending and, I have to say, this year one hundred percent topped the last.

I want to write a lot about it, but I think the best way of sharing it with you is via the vlogs I made this weekend. I absolutely love to vlog but life isn't generally interesting enough for me to go around filming my daily life- no one wants to see me watching Agent Carter in clothes I already wore the other day whilst pigging out on a bar of Milka my sister brought back from Italy. Ironically, I did kinda vlog that as I'm testing out a week in clips thing. Oops.

Anyway, here's my three SITC 2015 vlogs. I had an amazing weekend with a lot of amazing friends and I hope I can get that across to you guys. There was a handy little playlist but I can't work out how to embed that one to blogger. I TRIED GUYS, I PROMISE.

Thanks for reading, I'll be back with some real posts soon. I still need to post my LFCC haul, you know...that convention I went to a month ago. Oops.

Desk desk work space desk

I was actually going to write a different blogpost today, but it turned out I hadn't taken the pictures for that like I had thought, nope I'd actually taken pictures of my desk. So that's what I'm now writing about.

I have had this desk for YEEAAAARS but the other day, I suddenly decided to change it all about. I wish I'd taken a before photo, I'm sure there's tons buried on some external harddrive somewhere. I kinda neglect this desk nowadays, as I only come home from uni from time to time, but I am here over summer, so I did a little rearrange, just to make me feel a but more motivated and to change my environment just a tiny bit.

James & friends

Today we're going to write about YouTuber Jim Chapman's new stationery range- James & friends. I'm a long time viewer of Jim's, and he has been one of my favourite YouTubers for years now, I actually met him last year!

Jim recently announced his stationery range, with more to come! I adore stationery so I, for lack of better terms, lost my shit at this announcement. It's also not to overtly 'YouTuber merch', it's a new brand, a new image, and it's just so great to look at.

I purchased 3 pieces of the range from Paperducks, and I intend to get more! Probably the entire range, if I'm honest, but I'm trying to save all of the money I earn from work for travelling next year after I graduate from uni!

Anyway, let's get onto it!

Oh Me Oh My // Goodness Gracious

The week before last I went to Oh Me Oh My, a restaurant on Water Street in Liverpool.
There's an amazing roof garden terrace, so we naturally ate up there, even though it was a very overcast day and started raining while we were there.

STILL SO WORTH IT THOUGH.

Also I'm still getting used to using Calvin the camera, and most of my photos were overexposed (like the Maroon 5 album, yes) but these ones were salvageable! Sadly most of the pictures of the view were too awful. So you're just gonna have to visit to see it for yourself!!

I also had an amazing burger, which they BBQ there!! On the roof! In the middle of a city!! Well, it's kinda at the edge of the city. Isn't it weird how in most cities, the city centre IS the centre, but with Liverpool, the city centre is where the city ends, as it's on a river! Weird right?!

Why you should care about Agent Carter

Agent Carter is finally coming to the UK, here's a little intro and why you should give a shit about this.

If you don't know, Agent Carter centres around Agent Peggy Carter, who assisted to end the war with people such as Captain America, settles into a post-war life in New York city, working for the S.S.R. And despite being so incredibly important in ending the war, Peggy is put down constantly for being a woman. Her achievements in the war are boiled down to a love affair with Captain America by most. And her daily routine has shifted from saving lives and kicking Nazi ass to collecting the lunch orders of all the men in the office. And obviously, Peggy is unsatisfied with that and goes and kicks ass.

Farm shop frolics

I feel like putting the word frolics into a title immediately makes it sound sexual. I just wanted an 'f' adjective to match the farm word.

Anyhoo, it's been a while, and I'm sorry about that. Even though uni has ended, life hasn't slowed down, it's been a busy few weeks, I've been settling into a new job and have been working a lot, I moved out properly, I turned 20 and soon I should be starting an internship, so things are only going to get busier. I always thought uni would prepare me for the real world, but in fact it's ruined me because working all day is hard guys, especially when you're so used to having a day consisting of 2 hours of lectures and then doing a bit of work at home at my own leisure. And soon I'll be working 6 days a week. That's gonna kill me, but I need to stop letting my online life suffer because of it.

So last week, when my friend Keir and I both had a day off, we went to the Hollie's farm shop in...well somewhere in Cheshire! This place is kinda near my college, which was in Northwich, but honestly, I have no clue where this place was. I didn't leave near my college, so I'm not familiar with the area, but it seemed that everyone and their mother who went to my college worked in this place.

We went for breakfast, of course I ate it before I took a picture, but imagine a really good cooked breakfast.

Update: freedom, moving, working

Hi everyone,

It's been so long since I've sat down to write a post, even if right now I'm lying in bed so I'm not sat at all. I kinda am, I'm propped up on pillows. This is so irrelevant.

Anyway I have a few things to discuss here:

Freedom:

Exams are over, finally. It's been a very, very hard couple of weeks. You always think uni won't be that bad because you have less exams, I thought this about A levels too, and both times I couldn't have been so wrong. It got to the point where I was working almost 12 hours everyday, and I feel even that wasn't enough. It even got to the point where I had to stifle tears of relief after finishing my final exam. It was bad, however it was the first exam period where I didn't either have a minor panic attack or a crippling moment of anxiety. There was a lot of stress and a lot of anxious feelings, but not like the last few. I actually deal rather well under stress, but I always have that one hour or so where I have to let everything out before I can get back to work.

I'm so incredibly happy to be free from them, although I can't really get used to it, I feel like I need to be productive 24/7. Which is good, but I've been trying to break that cycle and learn how to relax. I spent yesterday playing a lot of Splatoon which helped! I do have a list of summer projects that I can crack on with soon enough.

I'm very thankful that next year I only have 3 exams over the entire year. Having 4 huge ones over 2 weeks was hard.

Moving:

I'm moving out of the flat I have lived in pretty much full time since early September. This has upset me much more than I was expecting. I've become so attached to it, which is obvious really, it's been my home for months! Of course I'm going to be sad to leave it.

More than that, I'm going to miss seeing the city skyline every morning when I wake up, and I'll miss living about 3 feet from some of my closest friends. Uni is great because you get to meet people from all over the world, but this time of year is both happy and sad, as you know you won't be seeing some friends for an extremely long time. So many of my friends are now all over the country, or all over America, Europe and Asia. It's bittersweet being done with exams, because it means you're not gonna see some close friends for ages. Of course, it's going to be amazing to spend more time with my friends from home, but like how uni friends do not replace home friends, home friends don't replace uni friends! I wish there was someway to have everyone together at once.

I'm really gonna miss being walking distance of pretty much everything I could want to do, or at the very least, having to hop a taxi. I always think Liverpool is just a mighty condensed version of London. There's so much to do, everywhere, but it's all so close. I live within a 15 minutes walk of so many amazing bars and restaurants. I can't even count how many, seriously! Living here has been great.

It's gonna suck being at home and completely dependant on my Dad to drive me around if something is too far away. I wish so badly I could afford to get insured on his car, at least then I could drive myself sometimes.

And it's gonna reaalllly suck not being able to do amazing things on impulse. Like just deciding to go to a new bar or restaurant that's opened, or go to the docks, or the museums or a show or anything! Home can't even compare. All there is to do is go to Starbucks or Wetherspoons. I wish we had more easily available to us. It's so amazing to see home friends, I have well and truly missed them all over the past few weeks/months. I just wish there were even better things we could do easily.

At least I'll be back in September for my final year of living in Liverpool. I'm going to make the most of it. You're at uni to learn, yes, but when you're paying £9,000 a year, plus rent, you need to make sure you look back at these years as incredibly fun, not as stressful as hell. Getting an education is important, but enjoying yourself in this period of life which will soon be gone forever is too! Never again will I live so close to so many friends, never again will my schedule be like this! It's too good to spend it all stressed out!

Working:

I applied to so many summer jobs/placements. One I got, a placement I did not, and another job seemingly never replied to anyone who applied, as I know others who applied to! Which is a shame because that job was perfect for me. I'm now working in a supermarket. The pay is good, and there are tons of hours available to me, to make money to go to Japan in 2016! I'm going to try earn as much as I can, so that I can hopefully go on a cheap post-graduation trip with my uni chums next summer. We'll see though, these goals are kinda ambitious.

I'm very glad to be working, I didn't last summer and it got boring fast. There's only so much Netflix you can binge. Plus working will motivate me to actually make the most of my free time. When it's a bit more limited it's a lot of more special than having 3 months to sit around doing nothing for.

Sorry for a huge wall of text.

Also I'm internally freaking out because a model I fancy like hell has just liked 2 of my instagrams and they don't even follow me. I need to chill TF out, but my thirst is unquenchable. And on that note, this is over.

If any of you made it this far,  thank you for reading it, I really appreciate you putting up with my babble. There will be more posts soon, I miss writing, I miss taking pictures, I just need to get some posts lined up.

Thanks team! See you later!

Exams

My desk has been a mess of colour co-ordinated notes and empty cereal bowls for a few weeks now
I'm sorry I've been so absent for the past few weeks! I've totally neglected my blog, which makes me sad because I do love writing on here, it's one of my favourite things to do in my spare time.

But it's exam time, so I don't have too much spare time right now! I will be back in full force in a few weeks! Even though my summer may actually end up even busier as there's a chance I could be working 2 jobs, one of which being full time, but who cares, I won't have to revise and that means I can blog the night away!

I have a bunch of posts planned, some of these are part of a series on home ware, decorating and all that good stuff that you know I love, and otherwise I just want to make a few more long form text posts about things that matter to me. I've been planning one on Agent Carter for a while.

Thanks for reading and sticking by me and this blog in it's absence!

Good luck to all of you in your exam period also! And good luck to any of you who could do with a little bit of that!

See you soon!

Tyler Oakley's Slumber Party!

Hi everyone!

As a well welcomed break from revision, I went to Tyler Oakley's Slumber Party tour in Manchester on Saturday night!

To celebrate this momentous day, here are some of my favourite behind the scenes pictures that I found:

Playlist of April

WOW this month has gone so fast. That's more terrifying than anything because what do I have to show for April 2014? I watched Agent Carter and oh so many Marvel films for the one millionth time.

And despite my constant tweets, I was not invited to the Avengers: Age of Ultron premiere by Marvel. Looks like I need to sell my soul to Thanos to make it.
